What To Write When You Don’t Know What To Write

So, you’re stuck and don’t know what to write about? I totally get it.

I’ve been there before. In fact, not too long ago, I was sitting in front of my laptop, staring at a blank screen, completely out of ideas.

I was almost ready to give up, when my little sister, Lily, walked in and gave me some of the best advice ever.

She gave me some great ideas, when she doesn’t know what to draw. She said. She thinks about things she’s done. Or maybe, it’s something she’s learned. Sometimes, she even makes things up.

And honestly? That advice works just as well for writing! So, let me share these ideas with you.

1. Write About Something You’ve Done

Think about something interesting you did recently. For me, it was making homemade pizza. It was a complete disaster at first. The dough stuck to the counter, and I almost dropped the sauce all over the floor. But after some trial and error, I figured it out, and the pizza turned out great!

People love real stories, especially ones where you overcome a problem or learn something along the way.

So, if you recently tried something new, messed up, and then made it work, that’s a perfect thing to write about!

2. Write About Something You’ve Learned

Another great idea is to write about something new you’ve learned.

For example, I recently found out that some plants don’t even need soil to survive. They’re called air plants, and they get moisture from the air instead of roots in the ground.

How cool is that?

If you’ve learned an interesting fact or skill lately, share it!

People love learning weird or useful things. And you might even teach them something they never knew before.

3. Write a Story From Your Imagination

And if all else fails, just make something up!

Lily suggested I write about a superhero who can turn invisible, but has no control over when it happens.

That got me thinking about all the hilarious situations that could happen.

Like disappearing right before taking a big bite of ice cream, or vanishing in the middle of class and freaking out the teacher.

Sometimes, writing a fun, made-up story is the best way to get your creativity flowing.

You don’t have to overthink it. Just start with a funny or exciting idea and see where it takes you.

So, the next time you’re stuck, try one of these ideas:

Write about something you’ve done, something you’ve learned, or create a story from your imagination.

Trust me, once you start, the words will come, and before you know it, you’ll have something awesome to share!
