Walking may just be the best exercise available to anyone anywhere.
It does not require any equipment except for maybe a pair of good shoes.
Walking is something I try to do almost everyday.
You don’t even have to try really…
Start with just 10 minutes a day, or even just parking on the other side of the parking lot.
Around here winter can be pretty cold, so you need to be creative about walking inside.
You could walk on your lunch break or while you’re on the phone.
Bonus reason for why walking is good for you, is that it can be done anywhere, at anytime.
Reason #1
Walking helps to relieve stress, and improve your mood.
Walking will help boost your creativity.
On those days, when you don’t know what your next blog post is going to about.
Instead of reaching for the chocolate cake, ice cream, wine or beer.
Go for a walk, reduce your stress, improve your mood, maybe try meditating while walking.
Walking is your zero calorie strategy with the same benefits.
Reason #2
Walking can strengthen your heart and lower your risk of chronic disease.
There are studies for everything. For this post, we’re going to use my study.
Walking has helped me lose weight, which in turn has reduced my blood pressure, and decreased my risk of Type 2 diabetes, while decreasing my risk of a heart attack or stroke.
‘Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can.’ – Arthur Ashe
Start with just 10 minutes a day.
Even walking 15 minutes after each meal can equal 45 minutes in one day.
You don’t have to walk for 45 straight minutes, break it up.
Make exercise easy for you.
Make exercise part of your lifestyle.
Reason #3
Walking can help you lose weight.
Depending on how far and how fast you walk.
Walking can burn between 75 and 150 calories an hour.
I had mentioned in an earlier post that exercise helps increase the number of calories that you are allowed to eat.
Not that you should use all your calories.
Walking can be the equivalent to a jelly donut.
Ok, maybe I should eat an apple instead, but you get the point.
Walking is an easy form of exercise, and exercise can help you lose weight.
Make walking a habit.
Extra bonus reason
Walking can be an easy exercise, that you like to do.
When you do something you like to do, it can become a habit.
When something you like to do becomes a habit, it becomes part of your lifestyle.
Starting small and building slowly is how you create a habit.
The more you do it, the more your other goals, will become attainable.
